Lately when my furnace comes on a strange smell comes from the vents... not realy like a diesel fuel smell, not sure what it is or how to fix it...Any suggestions would be very much appreciated...Thanks!

What kind of furnace is it?? Oil or gas?? Can you describe the smell at all??

The way you said diesel makes me believe its an oil furnace. You need to have it checked. The furnace could have a cracked heat exchanger or it could be caused from something simple like a bad nozzle or dirty ignitors. Maybe something more serious like a blocked flue. Nothing to play with in any case. You need to be safe and carbon monoxide is a possibility.
