Hi All. Newbie here. I'm hoping there is a few of you out there with the answer to my question. Heres the deal:
We have built a cabin on some strip mine property with no commercial power. In order to provide supplemental heat (lp furnace is primary source) we are in the process of installing a woodburning firebox. We did frame a 4' wide X 3' deep "chase" for the pipe to go up thru when we built the structure. The structure is made using conventional stick framing, not logs. At present there are no finished interior walls. The firebox opening has been roughed in so that it will be flush mount on the interior wall. The pipe will be in the wood framed chase that is on the outside of the wall. Basically it is a garage with a 4 x 3 box on it that goes up past the roof. We are going to be using 8" dw pipe (ss inside) as the manufacturer recommends and includes with the line of products. Here is question.... do we need to insulate and drywall the inside of the chase that the pipe will be going thru? I am not having much luck getting a straight answer from anyone around here. Thanks in advance for your help!
