the glue that held the legs, etc, must have sufferred, as several of the wooden chairs are coming apart.

You can take a rubber mallet and knock the chair appart. "Be sure to mark each and every part and what hole it goes with" :becareful not to hit it too hard or you could crack the piece.
Use Apple Cider Vinagar, as this will help loosen the glue. Allow it to sit in the holes for a while. You can clean off the ends of the spindles with a rasp. You can measure the diameter hole and use a drill bit the same size to re-drill in the same area to help clean out the glue after it's soaked in the vinagar. Allow to dry for 24 hours after you clean out the vinagar.
Then use Titebond glue to re-glue the chair. Make sure you glue it together on a flat surface, so your chair doesn't wobble. If it does wobble, you can take a belt sander to whichever foot is sitting high.

If you are familiar with glueing things and have used it before, i'd use gorilla glue for the chairlegs. Not to say anything is wrong with titebond...

If just one or two joints are loose I prefer not to pop a lot of firm joints to fix them. Wood glue slightly diluted with water can be applied through a syringe (get one from a diabetic), and will tend to flow into a loose joint rather than run out of it. There is also a product called "Chair Doctor Glue", slightly more sophisticated.
