and the other one does not. is this a big deal? the builder said it doesn't matter since the soffit is ventilated all the way around the house. he said most builders do no tdo this, which is true because i went around twon and checked for myself. hot air rises and will escape through the turbine, but i want to be sure it doesnt require a new turbine.

I would make sure it is CAPABLE of turning. I have 5 on my roof and they do not all turn at all times. But I know they all will if necessary. Good luck.

That is why code is doing away with them here. Like when you need them in the summer there is no wind so its just an open hole in the roof. They let rain it .If a storm is comeing you have to take then down and and cap the hole. A power vent fan on the roof there on a tstat Is all you need. They move a lot more air wind or no wind.

I have 4 of these on my roof..

They are just static vents, but I've wondered if I could replace the 2 outer ones with power vents, and remove the 2 inner ones completely, and not do a better job of venting the attic that way. I know it gets very hot in the attic, and I can go on the roof and feel the heat drifting out through these vents.

I don't want to hear the power vents run though, so that's a concern as well.

These need replacing anyway, they were beat up to begin with, then Ivan took a few wacks at them and made it even worse.

If you do the power vent right you dont hear it.
Attic sq ft X 0.7== CFM of vent fan Are put a cupola up on the roof and a belt fan in it. put it on a tstat.

Sometimes all the turbines need is a few drops of oil in the bearings. Turbines should always be turning except in the early morning or on a cloudy day with no wind. The heat exiting the attic will turn the vents. In Oklahoma there is always enough wind to turn the turbines.
