I have to repair a side board that split.
I am trying to figure out how to cut the slot in the end of the board to hold the hangers. The hangers are held in place by 2 steel dowels and covered with a piece of wood to prevent them from slipping out.
Does anyone know what is used to cut the slot in the end of the board? I looked at a couple of small saw blades but they are either too think or too big in diameter.

A router bit would have to be 3/32 wide by 3-1/2" long. Not an option.
It has to be some sort of saw blade.

Sounds like the slot was cut with a mortising machine of some sort. If that's the case, then it's probably something the average DIY'er won't have the machinery to do.
Can you repair the split at all? Maybe glue and screw another board on the inside of it (so it's concealed) along the split? Just throwing ideas out there for ya.

Thanks guys.
Just an FYI- I stopped by Rockler yesterday and they (salesman) had no idea. They also sell the hardware there. We opened a package to look at the instructions and low and behold, they only give the hole pattern dimensions. After giving it some thought, I am going to make a jig for my circular saw (Big biscuit jointer) and cut it from the bottom of the side board upwards to a stop and take the rest out with a drill and jig saw. The bottom doesn't really give any support anyway. it's just a matter of finding the right thickness saw blade...
