First my wife noticed this, then myself on weekends, sometimes at night. About every other day a sound like a muffled pistol, very loud and quick, comes from the back of the fridge.
Here are the details:
Make: Kenmore Top-Mounted Freezer
Model: 253 18.2 cubic feet with ice-maker
Ice maker is connected but arm is up and water supply is turned off.
The fridge has done this since the beginning, is relatively new--1 1/2 years, I am guessing that the bang sound has to do with moving the fridge and air being somehow purged and passed through the compressor. My wife moves the fridge (while running at times) at least once or twice a week to clean behind and or beside it.

Can anyone help?

Thanks

Hi chipsndukes, and welcome to DIY Forums.
- sorry, not a clue on that one. Will look into it and post back what I find in a day or two.

I don't know about the kenmores
Maybe a rubber motor-mount going bad.
Most refrigerators have a motor with metal or plastic fan blades under the refrigerator.
I would say when this motor starts the fan may hit something, do to a mount going bad.

First of all thanks so much for taking time to answer my post.
I'm sorry I can't describe the sound better than a pistol bang sound. I will listen more closely to hear if it sounds like blades of a fan due to the motor mount, as described.
I suspect the ice maker, but that doesn't make much sense, because the arm is raised and the water turned off.
I wonder if the moving of the fridge causes some freon bubbles.

Is it normally OK to move a fridge that is running? I don't think it's such a good idea, the wife insists on cleaning behind it, though, regularily.

Thanks again y'all. Hopefully between all of us someone will come up with something.

If I hear any more "gunshots" you'll bet I'll be writing... :)
