My husband has requested that I build a porch on our mobile home. I would like to roof it to make it fully functionable. I know better than to attach the porch and roof to the trailer, but I am stuck. Our home has an overhang. I cant figure out how to place the roof supports near the trailer, yet still have the roof of the porch reach the roof of the trailer near enough to install flashing to prevent leaking. Could someone please point me in the right direction? Or at least tell me that "you cant get there from here?"

It's been done millions of times.

You build the free-standing cover ("v-pan" or "flat pan") first, then build the deck under the cover. You'll probably have to hire the cover built -- you can't the parts to do an aluminum cover. They are only sold to authorized installing contractors. Once that's in place, you can easily determine the proper height of the deck or porch below it. You want 7' of head clearance, minimum.

Is there a reason you can't put the roof panels (or whatever you are using for roofing) under the overhang?

If you have more overhang than the one in this picture, the task is even easier.
