I have an i-beam that runs the length of the basement. For the majority, there is sufficient space to build out an enclosure but for a section of about 3' there is nothing for me to attach supports.
I am trying to determine the best method for enclosing the ibeam so that I can hang sheetrock. The sheetrock must be flush with the ibeam so as to maintain plumb with the existing wall. I have a 2*4 secured underneath the ibeam but the rafters for the first floor do not provide an attachment surface. I was debating drilling through the top of the ibeam to secure another 2*4 but attaching to the inside of the ibeam. Is this recommended?
thanks
