I noticed this evening that my water is much hotter than usual. I will look at hot water heater tomorrow but am wondering why this would happen? Thanks

If it is electric, there is a good possibility that the thermostats are malfunctioning.
If it is, replace both upper and lower thermostats, check the elements to make sure both are working.
