I just ordered some curtains, thinking that the curtains would be the kind that I could just slide the curtain rod through the top to hang. I have no intertest in being able to draw them open or closed as I will just undo the tieback to cover the windows. HOWEVER, now that the curtains are here, I find that they are pinch-pleated draperies which require the drapery pins and traverse rods. Is there any to convert these draperies or am I stuck with either returning them or buying traverse rods? Thanks in advance for any assistance.

have you seen the metal rods with the cute finials, used with the little rings with clips? i've seen this type of rod used with pinch pleated curtains, and i think they're just clipping to the 2 outside pleats. i'll try to find a picture of what i'm talking about & put a link here.......

does that rod sound like something you'd like?

look at this picture:

this link should take you to the jcpenney website, in the drapery area. see the drapery called "Palmdale Cotton Coordinates". see the way the drapery is hanging? click the "see it larger" button to enlarge it. it's a pinch-pleated drapery and it's hung from that rod using the ring clips. i love the look. i'm assuming they're clipping just behind each pleat but i could be wrong. to be sure, go to your local drapery department somewhere & see if they've got a display.

hope that helps!

Ironically enough, I ordered the curtains from Penny's! Think those would work great! Thank you! A friend suggested I just go ahead and put the hooks in the draperies and put them directly over a plain curtain rod. I'm afraid they will hang forward and look heavy. Any thoughts on that suggestion?

i'm not sure what she means by "plain curtain rod", but those hooks are pretty small - i'm not sure they'd even fit over a pole that's as small as 1" in diameter. so your rod would be super skimpy and probably not even hold the weight properly. maybe a 2" continental rod would work better, since it's a little heftier, but still skinny enough that the hooks would fit over it. then again, i can see the hooks slipping when you pull the drapery back with the tiebacks. how would you keep the top together and keep it from sliding apart? do you have to have it like that, or could you use a more decorative pole and just have the drapery hanging straight down on the sides? that's really more of an up to date look than having the top together & pulling the sides back with tiebacks anyway.
