I've got an old maple dresser that was inherited from my in-laws. The dresser itself is beautiful, but it's a pretty nasty orange color. I think it has a layer of polyurethane on it, but i'm not sure.
What are my options with this thing? I would like to stain it a darker color if that's possible (I'm not sure if the maple will take the stain), but painting it is also an option. What kind of surface prep does each require. I'm new to refinishing furniture, so feel free to talk down to me. Thanks.
