My dad sold a house in which he thought had a heat pump. 2 months later, the lady is complaining that it is not a heat pump, but an outdoor AC unit and an indoor gas furnace. She claims she bought an electric heat pump and is forcing him to provide a heat pump. She does not want gas.(I know all the arguments-but my dad is an honorable man and wants to make it right.) However since my father is elderly, that leaves this job up to me and my husband.
My question: Can a heat pump be added to the existing AC unit outside, or what is the easiest route to go? I don't know much about the options. Both the AC unit and the gas furnace are only 1 1/2 years old. Will we have to start from scratch since whe does not want anything gas?
PLEASE HELP! We would greatly appreciate any input anyone can give!

Well it may be less expensive to get another tennet.
A new heatpump would require a new indoor unit, a new outdoor unit, and a new bigger electrical service at the indoor unit.

You say he wants to make it good. SO sorry to say it all has to go. 1 1/2 old should be able to sell it or get a furnace company to take it in trade. For sure get 3 bids on this job. As you dont live there ask for the lowest SEER and HSPF that they have . Like said check the electric panel if its a 200 amp it might work for you . If notyou may have to put a new one in.
Good luck

I would say "Sorry but to the best of my knowlege that's what it had" She should of had it inspected anyway before purchase.
