Mother in-law has a Amana Heavy Duty Xtra large Capacity refrigerator side by side. About 3 weeks ago she called me with a problem with fridge food getting warm. I noticed that the freezer wall at rear had frosted up. I took all food out of freezer and fridge and cleaned the outside rear of fridge which had a huge amount of dust bunny material around condensor and fan. I unplugged fridge, let it deforst overnight, plugged it back in the next day and it has been working OK unitl today she called me and said the fridge food seemed to be getting warm again and she said when looking in the back of frezzer part that their was frost on the wall. What shall I do next? [/FONT]

Hi John Charles,
- you're on the right track with de-frosting it. This is supposed to be happening automatically and apparently isn't. The common reason for this is a failed 'defrost timer' This is a small unit that's plugged in somewhere down near the compressor. It's usually about 2x3", irregular shaped and has a raised disc on one side (timer motor) most have 4-5 wires running to the socket they plug into. I would buy one for the unit (using model# ) then look for that piece in the back. If not this, then chances are one of the actual heaters is broken, they are much harder to access.
Post back and let us know what transpires.
