We installed a Lennox gas fireplace insert into our old wood burning fireplace just over a year ago. We had the installation company come and look at the insert over a month ago because we had noticed discoloration on the inside of the insert as well as the bottom. When they came to look at it they told us it was a "manufacterers defect". The other day a 2nd person came to look at it and told us it was normal. The bottom near the glass has what looks to me like rust and the surround part is turning black. He told me all inserts do this due to the condensation that is inside. Has anyone else experienced this? It seem awfully quick for rust to be appearing? They are going to send someone to sand off the rust and apply paint as well as adding 2 panels along the side of the insert on the inside.

Thanks for any light you can shed on the situation.

I have contacted Lennox rather than the installer and they are looking into this.

For anyone who is considering one of the inserts I have model L20 D1

I'd appreciate hearing from anyone with similar complaints about rust. The insert is barely a year old.

Thanks

Lennox replied to me that we need a:

ceramic fiber liner interior panel kit available P/N: H0978
Your dealer will need to file a warranty claim and place an order for this kit.

Has anyone else had to do this? :wall: :wall:

Well, the latest is that the Lennox fireplace insert is a big problem for the company. They have had to yank about 20% of them and replace them. I'm EXTREMELY upset and feel as if I've been lied to. The last guy finally admitted they were having problems...interesting because up till then they were trying to say they had never seen it. We are in the midst of negotiating a replacement we want Heat N Glo and we don't think we should have to pay anything extra after all the trouble.

Anyone with a Lennox - keep an eye out for rust on the sides and the bottom of the insert. When they lifted the logs off to add the backing it was FULL of rust...in less than a year!
