How do I install Pre-cast Concrete columns? In the interior of my home.Like these (http://www.pacificstone.net/CatSearch.asp?CatName=Columns)

There are often seen as decoration around desk supports.

They I have 4 halfs, 2 halfs will be joined around a 6x6 post the other 2 halfs will be placed flat against the wall on the other side of a pair of arches.

I understand that they will be grout in the joints, but how do I anchor this babies to the post and to the side walls? I would not want my little one to bang into it and have one half peal off, nightmare.

Thanks,

Marc

The mfgr. or supplier should be able to answer your questions. Probably a better source than here, unless some other member has ever actually installed them.

I agree with Lefty, Man. will have the EXACT answers you need.

I've personally never install the concrete based posts, but have installed many fiberglass preformed posts. Many of these are used under porch roofs, or under support beams and depending on load they will be supporting it will affect design, mix, and installation requirements. The fiberglass units are very easy to install since the shear load is what typically holds them in place. We use a masonry fiber blade to do the cutting which is pretty wuick on the fiberglass posts, then before you install the decorative top and bottom are slid over the coloumn before setting into place. After you true up the post the decorative end caps are nailed/screwd into place, nail/screw holes are filled with paintable caulk as well as seam between post and end covers. After it's all painted you never know it's not 1 piece. They do make a bold decorative statement once installed
