Maytag Dishwasher not cleaning well

I have an older Mayatg WU404 dishwasher that recently hasn't been doing such a good job. I've noticed a few times what looks like a piece paper towel protruding from the spraying holes of both spray arms. I pull the piece out and soon again another piece is sticking out. Can I remove these spray arms? How? I'm sure this must be the problem. It seems like somehow a paper towel got into the washer at some point.

- these arms do come off quite easily, usually held on by a nut at the top face of the spray arms. Possibly under a cover or the tower if one is fitted . These often clog up and are the most likely source of your problem :cool:
