Hi
My electric heater circuit in overheating the dual 60 amp cartridge style fuses feeding it. The heater draws 40amps and checks out OK by test. I have cleaned and tightened all terminals and connections from the fuse box to the heater. I have switched the fuses and even switched the heater wires with an identical service that supplies the stove. That circuit still heats up to sizzling hot. The wire supplying the juice does not heat up. I have also bypassed this wire by running a bypass to the heater. Still gets burning stinking hot in about 20 minutes.
What would cause this circuit to get so hot??
thanks

Lost here. If you have a 60 amp breaker and the right wire on it to a 40 amp heater how can the wire get hot?
With and amprobe on it what is the amp draw on the heater when its on??? Are put a 40 amp breaker and see if it will hold. I dont think so.
ED ;)

Sounds to me like you had better call an electrician before your house burns down. Not being a smart a$$. Have been a firefighter for 40 years & have seen too many houses burn. PLEASE call an electrician.

So chumiser you say that the fuses get hot are these fuses in your main panel?
If so I would suspect that the main buss bar in the panel box is heating up when any appliance is drawing a lot of amps.
It may be a loose connection there.
