I am running wiring through the joists of my basement so I can install a ceiling in my finished basement. The water supply is on the opposite sid of the house than the electric panel. My question is, can I run the grounding wire through the joists to the water supply line?

Generally, there is no reason to not run the Grounding Electrode Conductor through the joists, if there is the ability to run all other cabling with that method. Maintain a minumum 1.25 inch distance from edge of joist to outside of bored holes, preferable drill holes in center of joist where there is the least stress on the beam.

Is there a specific reason to not run it through the joists?
