I'm replacing a standard medium base pendant fixture with 3 50W halogen
mini pendants. I should be able to wire into the switch loop and extend the loop throught the 3 new fixtures, correct?

I installed the old pendant 11 years ago with no problems, replacing an unsightly track system.

I'm hoping that the existing lead for the fixture will reach the 2 feet I need to get to the nearest of my new trio.

Any thoughts?

You do not want to wire into the switch loop.

Add a box at the end of the current wire. Run a new wire from that box to the first new pendant location, connect the wires color to color using wire connectors. Add a blank plate to cover the box keeping it accessible. Continue from 1st pendant to 2nd to 3rd.
