First off, this forum has been an excellent source of information and I appreciate all the wonderful posts.
Today, we had a chimney sweep check the fireplace in a home that we are purchasing. The home is 87 years old and has a beautiful non-functioning fireplace in the living room. We want to use it as a wood-burning fireplace.
According to the chimney sweep, everything was in great shape other than it not containing a liner or a damper.
He quoted us $1800 for the liner and $150 for the damper. The liner will be constructed of rigid Stainless Steel and insulated with a ceramic blanket wrap and is approximately 15 feet long and 10 inches in diameter. The damper is the type that sits on top of the chimney and is opened and closed with a chain that hangs down into the firebox. All prices include installation and once the renovations are completed, the fireplace will be up to code.
Do these prices sound reasonable?
Thanks in advance.
