My Kenmore dishwasher model 587.1574590 fills with water, although not up to the element. Then it'll just click and buzz. I look underneath through the kick panel and I don't see the motor or pump moving at all. The timer does go around. THe element heats up. How can I save this thing? Thanks.

Hi RockyMon,
- sounds like the motor or centrifugal switch. To test them you need to get at the motor with a meter. Remove the pump, remove wire harness, and take the switch off the motor, Remove and mark internal motor wires. By pushing switch actuator up you should get cont. between red and Bk terms on switch, and also orange and blue. Release actuator and you should now have cont. at orange and violet/white. Now check motor wires, Blk/yell should be 5-7 ohms, blue/white should be 1-2 ohms, white/wht. violet should be 2-3 ohms, wht./ wht.orange should be 2-3, wht/wht.bk should be 0..
Check is now complete. If motor or switch didnot meet criteria, you need to renew.

Thanks for the tips, nomind. Can you direct me to an illustrated view of the parts you mention?

Hi RockyMon,
- sorry, I don't know where you'd find an illustrated view other than in a specific Kenmore/Whirlpool manual . (which I don't have) You may be able to get one in a generic appliance parts store (there are usually3-4 in every city)
