Hi,ok i have been rereading all these posts. My problem is that i created a grow room this winter in my basement(not that kind of grow room either lol). Now when i open that room up,my first floor windows will fog up(all windows in the house are old and do need to be replaced,no kitchen exhaust fan or bathroom exhausts either).I actually had frost about an 1/8 of an inch thick this year on the inside of my living room windows(single lead paned glass).

I am slightly worried about rot or mould since i am guessing that this room is creating way too much moisture. However i have been told at the store that you should never run one in the winter, that it will freeze up.

k so i am really confused................

If the room/basememt is warm enough, you should be able to run the dehumidfier.

Other wise, if you don't open your windows inthe winter. get those 3M window kit.. I put it on our bathroom and sure helped alot!

K what do you call warm enough? It is usually about 60 degrees in my basement.
Itwould not freeze until it dropped to 0 celsius in the house correct? (32 f)

60 degree is boarder line for some dehumidfier.. Some of the newer ones can run in cooler areas..

The dehumidifier is just like an AC you can run them on down to what you want if to cold put a crankcase heater on the compressor. But if it was below 32oF in there then then the humidity would try to freezeon everything. Now I would first put a small vent fan in this room vent to the outside of the home with a flipper on the outlet of the vent pipe. Also for mold and the high moisture in the home do you have the room lined with like a 6 mil poly on all the walls ceiling and the floor. Might help.

the maytag 65 one at home depot is down to 40 something i think, and the sears 70 goes down pretty low too, i returned both so don't have the manuals any more but do remember they both were meant for colder places
