I just purchased a used (10 yrs old) Kenmore (GE) side-by-side that looks like new but trips the circuit breaker after a couple of minutes. These items appear to be in good condition or working properly before the circuit blows:

inside lights
power cord
fan in freezer
fan near compressor

Any ideas what could be causing this?

ps. I kept the refrigerator upright while moving

If you know how the next step would be to ohm out the compressor. See what it tells you. You say all the rest work.Check all wires to and from the compressor also that they are tight.

I have a multi-meter and know how to check ohms, but how many ohms should it be?
The wiring diagram is long gone and I'm assuming that that info would have been on it.

Thanks!

Cant say for sure but pull the wires off the compressor and see if anyone of them go to ground "some" thats bad. Then see if you get the same ohm from one to the other. Mark it down so you put the wires back the same way on it.
