American Standard Heat Pump turns on primary heat for about 2-3 minutes the immediately turns on the auxillary heat.......
this happening at temps just below room temp.........doesn't have to be below 40
some say it's normal
others say outside switch forcing auxilary not to come on until certain temp
other say low refrigeration
if anyone else has had this problem ,,,,,,,,please help

Usually the aux will kick in if the roomtemp is a few degrees below setpoint and then when it gets to maybe 2º from setpoint it will kick off. You normally have this problem if you are using a setback t-stat.

Feel the big copper line is it hot are just warm. That could tell us if its the freon or not. If its not hot that could give you that 2o drop Matt spoke of and turn the AUX on. Your filter is clean??
