I'm trying to make a chandelier for my living room. I'm stuck at trying to source inexpensive sockets for the bulbs. I've settled on E14 bulbs because I can get globe shaped white bulbs of about 2.5" diameter. The bulbs won't have shades on them due to the design.
The E14 sockets I've found are about $9 each and the bulbs will be about $3 each. I will need 12 of each so I need to find something quite a bit cheaper to make this economical. Are there any cheaper sockets that are more versitile? I'm hoping to be able to mount them in 1/2" or 5/8" tubing. I'd prefer halogen but incadescent is fine as well. The bulb size I'm looking at is about golf ball sized or slightly smaller.

You might scrounge around in thrift stores and such to find an old fixture you can cannibalize for parts. I've seen plenty of chandeliers for $5 or less.

I was thinking about something like that, it seems as though it's cheaper to buy something for its individual components than to buy the needed parts.
My parents bought two butcherblock tables for their wooden legs because it was cheaper than buying legs. We welded some metal strip to pipes and made legs for the table and now they're at my house!
