i purchased a 25 year old home with carpet of unknown age. i'd guess 10 year old carpet. it looks fine, but there is an area on one side where it abuts to a ceramic tile floor. there is a tack strip that runs adjacent to the tile, but one section of carpet about 18" long does not adhere to the tack strip. is there an easy method of getting the carpet back down on the floor?

You have to stretch the carpet to get it to hold on the tackstrip, unless the carpet at the edge is damaged, so the backing will not grip the tackstrip pins.

You might want to hire out this repair, to a professional that will warranty the repair.
