hello - my maytag washer (about 5 years old) lets out a very loud screaching sound when it stops spinning. it does this with water in it or without. it has been getting louder and you can hear it all over the house.
can i fix this myself? just lubricate a part? there is a belt on the bottom...?
it is an atlantis.
thanks!!

Hi matchley,
- You don't mention model # (always a good idea) but if this is a standard model, then you likely have a brake problem . The brake drum is under the transmission. It can be lubricated by a few drops of oil into the top of the drive pulley in the brake drum flange. It is replaceable ( with a tool you get from Maytag agents.)
Do it Right - Do it once.
