Ok. So I acquired an Ethan Allen Armoire from a good friend of mine that had it in a storage unit. Its a long story as to why it was there, but basically he is getting rid of the storage so he gave the armoire, as well as some other E.A. furniture to me. He has told me that his parents went down to California to buy it along with some of the other E.A. things just before he was born (1976). There is a "LOGO" within a drawer that has a guy facing right that looks like a ship captain or something. Although I am not sure how much assistance it will be, I just noticed on another site there were a few different "LOGOS" per line of furniture. The little chair/love seat thing has a tag on it says "Ethan Allen Interior" and below that it says "Traditional Classics". Its all on one green tag.
All in all I dont know much about furniture, but I have refinished furniture in the past. Mostly things that I picked up on the side of the street or at the goodwill. I know how to make repairs to wood furniture and this armoire had a metal rod fall on it and it knocked out a chunk. It was a clean chip for the most part but it did need some wood filler. To make the long story even longer, I ended up removing all the old stain and now I am in the process of staining the lower half. Trying to fix all the dings and scratches (patching that piece back on) left me with no other alternative.
Basically I am hoping that someone had an idea as to the value of armoire in its original state, and I will repost once I am done with it to see if anyone might have an idea of it then, being that I can figure out how to post a picture. Thanks for taking the time to read this.

djollie,
This website is more for helping people (Do it yourselfer's) accomplish tasks around the home, not to help people establish value for things. I am going to move this thread to the furnishings forum (sorry Annette)- they may be able to help you there, but your better off going to a website that can help you, or a local antique or resale shop. :mask:

I'm not really sure what your looking for djollie
It's great that you got the armoire and are fixing it up
In it's original state the retail price in '76 has little bearing on what it's worth today, if that's what you're looking for
It's certainly not an antique, it has about 70 more years to go
As far as used furniture goes, it really would be a regional thing
Example: Used furniture doesn't have a big market in my neck of the woods, but where my folks are in FLA there are stores packed with nothing but used furnishings

If the piece were an antique, refinishing it would greatly lessen its value. If you are curious about its original value (I can assure you that it was expensive), stop by an Ethan Allen store. Or, you can ask them a question online at http://www.ethanallen.com/jsp/dstud_askea_form.jsp
