Hi every one,
this is my first posting, hope I get it right :thinker:
My whirlpool washer Direct drive, model supper capacity plus. After
Repairing the coupling, (I had my washer laid down). It rambles during
Spinning. I changed the pads for the plate (lower 3 No. 18) it still vibrate
Like crazy.
Note from various sites that the plate is out of place and also I found
Out the basket ring is only a ¼ full of liquid.
I have taken out the cabinet and the agitator. Now come to the spanner nut
Which give me a lot of head ach? I spent the whole morning. Attempted to
To hammer it out with a screw driver. It did not move a bit. I flood it
Liquid wrench, nothing is moving. Even I chipped off some metal from
The nut. It makes me real nut! :wall:
My questions are:
1) Can I get the plate in place easily (taking apart the pump and motor but w/o
Taking out the tube and basket?) and also change the upper pad No. 16.
2) How can I replace the liquid in the top balance ring of the basket? And what kind
Of liquid is it? Some say it is salt water. (Why salt water?)
3) The brown color balancing ring seems sealed up all the way. How can
Liquid leak out while I laid down the washer? If there is one way out, there should be one way in.
4) For the spanner, can I use a torch to heat up the outer rim before hammering it out?
Appreciate help. Thanks in advance.

hi Doitallday24,
- welcome to DIY Forums.
-According to the information I have, you need to get a special tool from the dealer to remove that spanner nut. I don't think you can fill the liquid in the ballast ring, I believe the ring must be replaced. Sorry. :(

Thanks nomind for your reply.
I was not so :( . After having a break. Something did come up
to my mind.
1) to break loose this tight spanner nut, instead of keep on hammering with
a screw driver, why not a monkey wrench? (don't want to buy a special
tool costing nearly $20. just for one time use.)
I used a ten inch monkey wrench, just fit into the basket and with the jaw
open to its' max. (I mean real maximum) and just one hammer to the handal.
Yeah......it moved.
2)As for the liquid in the balance ring. Since I can now take out the basket.
I can inspect the level of the liquid more accurate now. It is exactly half
full. (some said it's the required amount).
I took all the parts apart down to the base frame. Changed all the pads and
will begin replacing tomorrow. I will come back to you if I have further problems
