I'm ready to drywall the basement after having framed (wood), wired, insulated, etc. I will be hiring a pro to do the taping and mudding (every DIYer worth his weight should know where to draw the line on what he can and should try!) My problem is that there will inevitably be points where I will need to join a butt and tapered edge together. One of these areas will be the inside corner where the ceiling and wall meet.
Will this be a problem for the taper/mudder or is it common and relatively easy to tape/mud this joint?
Thanks - D. Cervoni

Only place it's a problem is if you have it in the middle of a wall or ceiling. It can be finished by a pro, but will generally turn out badly for a novice. It's normal procedure to have a tapered edge on the ceiling with a butt end of the wall meeting it.
One other suggestion, before you take off hanging the rock & then contract the finish only, have the drywaller give you a bid both ways, for hanging & finishing and just for finishing. It comes as a surprise to alot of people that in many cases, it'll cost the same to hang & finish, as it will to just finish. Also get more than one bid, at least 2 or 3. HTH.

Well said on the price check. When i do hang I usually finish so any problem areas I personally have to deal with so I "reap what i sew" if your hanging it and the other guys are coming in to T,M,&T they will pick up quickly any goofy joints you may have caused by just not knowing exactly what your doing. If they give you a bid before you hang it, they are nuts, and you can bet your quoted price will go up once they get there to do their part and find things are'nt what they should be.
Typically hanging is the cheapest part, my subs charge me $.15/sq ft to hang and to T,M, & T (tape, mud, and texture) they charge me $.35/sq ft.
But given the exchange rate up there it's probably like $5.00/sq ft to hang it and $15/sqft to TMT LOL ;)

Thanks for the replies. I haven't gotten around to hanging the drywall yet so I will look into getting quotes on that as well. Maybe I will be able to spare myself that part of the job if the price is right.
