Signed a contract tonight for a Culligan Gold softener and reverse osmosis drinking water system. Cost - $3798. Cost includes moving the system when our new house is built later this year.
I'm sure it's an issue of being cheap and having cost remorse but have I paid too much? If so, how much? Got the price down somewhat but no lower.
Any feedback is appreciated. Thank you.

Unless that is an industrial size softener, no softener is worth that much IMO. Do a search for softeners on the web and see what range softeners sell for.

Passed on the reverse osmosis for purification, bringing the price down to $2597. Still think I paid too much but there is a 30-day return.
Does anyone have any experience with Kinetico? They seem to have a good reputation.

If the sale was done in your house/business, the Federal law (right of recision) says you have 3 business days to cancel by mail. They should have given you notice of tha tand explained the process. That is about the only way you can get out of that contract as long as the unit works during those 30 days. The 30 days doesn't mean refund if you don't want it etc.. My advice, cancel in writing with return reciept certified mail and post marked by hand within the 72 hours. Then call the dealer and tell them to cancel the install.

I have a culligan in my home, and it came with the house. I offer to buy it, but they were asking over $1,200 for it! They wouldn't drop the price!
I am just renting it for now, and will be getting one at Home Depot next month once I get back on my feet.

You want to do some research about big box store brands and their longevity before you do that. Many last only 3-6 years before expensive and irritating problems start. Most of the problems are with the control valve so it makes a lot of sense to look for the best control valve. IMO that is the Clack WS-1 and Fleck 7000. The Clack WS-1 is the easiest to work on for the DIYer and the parts are the lowest price of any and it was designed that way. If you buy right, they are about the same price as the softeners at the big box stores but you get a 5 year warranty on the control and 10-20 years service free life.
