I pulled up carpet from concrete floor and found even older rubber backing still glued down. I want to put down ceramic tile but can settle for vinyl if forced to. Any ideas on how to go about removing the old rubber and glue, and also, how clean do I need to get the floor for thinset or vinyl adhesive?

thanks. I will give it a try. The laquer thinner seems to work fairly well. Still a little residue, but it is smooth. Thanks for the tip on thinset vs. adhesive.
