My 3-year old GE dryer has all of a sudden become LOUD. It's not squeaking or squealing, it's just an amplified dryer sound, with a slight smell. Any suggestions on what the cause might be? It is the same volume whether the vent hose is on or off, so don't feel like it's a clog in the hose.

- judging sounds is really tough, we all hear a bit differently. Try feeling the drum for lateral movement. I'm thinking - possibly drum bearing. :cool:
