Hi,
We took out our old light fixture last night and noticed that the hole they cut is right next to the joist -- so that if we put in our new IC rated recessed light can into this hole as planned, it will actually be touching the joist. Is this going to be dangerous or cause problems?

I see them done that way all the time. Just to be safe though, why not place a call to the fixture manufacturer (or send them an e-mail) and ask them?
