Hi,

I have a few general questions on floor refinishing and maintenance:

-Is it advisable to ever just add another "coat" of urethane / finish to a floor without sanding down and starting all over? I'm wondering about simply cleaning the floor, maybe sanding lightly, then adding a coat of urethane. Is this a big no-no?

-How do you know when a floor needs refinishing? Is it a matter of preference (shininess, scratches), or are there some tell tale signs?

Thanks for any advice!

-Jim

It is time to refinish when there is no coating or surface finish left to protect the wood. You can add another coat or two if you sand between coats to provide tooth so that the new coat will adhere. Go to www.nofma.com & check refinishing directions.
