Im replacing an old ceiling fan that had a old dial type speed control on the wall and a separate on/off/dimmer switch for the light. So I have 2 wires each at the ceiling. 2 black, 2 white, 2 grd. The fan has 3 wires. 1 white, 1 black, 1 blue for the light.
I figure I can use 1 switch connection for the fan,black/black/ white/white
then use the black from the other old switch and connect it to the blue wire. What do I do with the extra white wire ?
Also what is the best switch selections for this application ? I would like a dimmer for the light but what about the fan, speed control etc. Am I stuck using an on/off and using the pull chain for speed control ?
Would I be better off buying the Hunter control that only requires 2 wire and plug the other switch hole in the drywall and make this easier and better application. Thanks for any suggestions.

together. If I read your post right, there should be 3 of them. Then connect one of the black to the fan black (the one with the speed control). Then connect the last black to the blue for the light. That should do it.
The switches would be your personal preference, I've always liked the wall controls better, since my couch eats my remote controls! One of the remotes I saw had a "thermostat" like feature...you could set it to a temperature and it would automatically turn the fan on and off and adjust the speed to try and hold that temperature. Also, some remotes will let you reverse the fan as well....I'm not sure if a wall switch will do that. (I had one that did, put that was a while ago!)
Hope this helped!
