Always clean your wood floors with the recommended cleaner by your pre-finished flooring manufacturer or your finish manufacturer. Not doing so may void finish warranty. The National Oak Flooring Manufacturer's Association does not frown upon a cup of white vinegar in a gallon of water. Clean a section at a time & throw down an old terry cloth towel and rub back and forth to restore shine and remove residues after cleaning. Spray cleaner on mop not on floor.
Grit is the biggest enemy of wood floors. Food, spills, & water can also be a problem. You need to maintain floors with area rugs, floor protectors on furniture & maintain with proper cleaning.
Protectors should be placedon all furniture legs. Mats & area rugs should be in high traffic areas & entries & kept clean. Run dust mop (not pretreated) in high traffic areas frequently. You can use brush attachment on vacuum--no beater bars.
No high heels. Keep dog nails trimmed. Do not use cleaning products that contain waxes, ammonia, oils, or silicone.
