We have bruce 3/4" solid hardwood floors that have a beveled edge from the factory. This creates a "groove" between each board. The floor could use a refinishing as it has many scratches and the grooves are dirty. I want to remove the grooves through the sanding process when refinishing them. Any advice? We have had two flooring contractors tell us they have never had this request. Has anyone else heard of this?
Thanks,
Michael

It can be done, but it is going to take sanding most of your flooring away.
The contractors are scratching their heads trying to figure just how much sand paper and just how much time sanding and sanding to get it all gone and also flat. This is not your normal request of a sand & finish, where they have a pretty good idea what it is going to take to cut and finish the flooring.
Your request is not unheard of, it is these guys have not been around long enough to get that request, or they are really scared to unberbid it and lose profits, because it took more time and materials to get the grooves to disappear, then they figured.
They could trowel fill the floor, but sometimes that doesn't look good in the gaps.
