I got an estimate from Lowes on Mohawk carpeting. The name that Lowes uses for the model is "New Bedford" PL029-12-L025, with the premium padding it comes to $6.03 a sq. foot. They measured 1368 sq. feet. or 228LF. for a grand total of $8,063.82. It is a short, dense carpet with no pattern. They have the one year same as cash deal and the usual 10% off. We really like the carpet, but I am having trouble swallowing the price! They suggested the premium 8# odor ban padding which totals $930.00(included in the $8,000). Does this sound like a fair price for this type of job? Thanks

I could do the same for around $4 per sq.foot.
Carpet: $2 - $3 sq.ft (estimate)
Padding: .30¢ per sq. ft. 8# - 7/16" (The odor eater is a marketing gimmic)
Installation: .61¢ per sq.ft.
move furniture: $50 per hour
take up old carpet: .22¢ per sq.ft.
If you value Lowe's services, then value is not measured in price alone.
The price is fair for Lowe's, since the money goes through so many hands before you get it in your home.

Price is fair for Lowe's because their cost is higher.
Plus the cooks in the kitchen will add to the cost.
lots of other local stores can blow their prices as well.
use the saved money to invest in a rubber slab pad with antimicrobials.
