My relatively new (< 2 years old) modular shower stall door is very difficult to close. It appears that it's not alligned properly, but I don't see how it can be adjusted. Am I missing something ?

You may be S.O.L., but usually there is some adjustment somewhere. You just have to find it.
Sometimes either the hinge or the jamb (handle) side of the door frame has two pieces of aluminum extrusion that are shaped like a "C" with one a little larger than the other and the open ends of the "C" face each other so hey can be slid in and out in a telescoping fashion to adjust it's width. There are usually screws or rivet that hold the two pieces of extrusion together and they have to be removed before you can adjust the frame.
