I own a 27" Sony TV. It was manufactured in September of 1988. I know it's old, but I don't use it for anything but the video part. Sometimes I do try to watch it as I have it set-up in my basement. Here's the problem: It seems like once the tv warms up a little, it starts trying to lock the station in but it drifts. Like when tuning in a radio station (static in and out). I have read some threads and it seems like it may be the tuner. Any suggestions besides trowing it out?

Hi AJ,I have fixed a ton of these, inside the set is a silver tuner and IF can,one of them has a bad connection inside, sometimes both, tap em with a screwdriver and see when it goes out, that is the bad one. They are reparable,I dont know if u can still buy em but they are pricey. If you can solder u can fix it and same some cash
Good Luck

If you change channels by turning a knob instead of pushing a button, you might try some tuner cleaner. It comes in a small spray can. I used it on an old, old tv and it really helped the tuner.

:wall: WOW that must be a really old tv from 1988 that you have to change the channel with a knob. I wonder how the remote works but in this modern day with ever new technology maybe I can purchase a SONY personal robot to change channels because the SONY from 1988 has retro technology.
I suggest that if you want a quick fix go and buy a cheap 40.00 VCR and jack it into one of the video inputs and use the tuner on it (the VCR) to change channels.
Leave the TV on Video 1.
