Hello all, I have a Philips 19 inch color TV that has a problem. First the power button broke so I replaced the button and switch that controlled the power..that fixed that problem. but now the volume controls do not work and there is no volume comming out of the television for it seems like that portion is shorted out but do not see a short on the board anywhere near that part of the tv. I am lost on what to do without a schematic or such to repair the tv with so I am turning to you. Once again, I cant control the volume at all and there is no sound comming out. Oh, and by the way before I forget, any button I push on the front also turns the TV set on as well. Which is not what its suppose to do. Thanks for your help if you can. :wall:

on my 25" phillips tv, any button you push on the front turns it on. I'd take a look at the button you replaced for a shorted or broken trace. Otherwise check out the audio circuit.

make sure the connection to the speakers is fully plugged in too. I have forgotten to plug it back after soldering on the boards once or twice.

I had a 27" Phillips that did the same thing about a year ago and it turned out to be a resistor on the crt Im at work right now so I cant get the exact number, but if you have a DVM I would recommend testing some of resistors there and Im pretty sure you will find one bad or so, oh Im not to sure if you know where to look, but it is the board attached to the picture tube. When I get home later I will try and find the info. Im not sure if SMOKEY is still on the boards, but if he is hes the one that helped with mine. So Smokey if your out there here is another one for ya :)

ok thats all fine and good that the power can be turned on by any button in the front..the speakers are attached back into place the best to my knowledge that I can see..but here is the key. The volume control does not go up or down its staying on volume 29 and not moving whatsoever..but the button is responding to like it wants to move but something is hanging it up. The main control board is seperate from the crt linked to the crt board via com cables, 2 of them i believe..All the buttons have good connection so this is not the problem..I do not know what is hanging up the audio though..there is no sound and cant adjust the volume at all the buttons do indicate they are working but the volume meter is not moving..staying on volume setting level 29.

May be unrelated, but another weird quirk of my TV that I thought I would mention. You can't change the volume on it unless a channel is tuned in. If you have static, you can't change the volume.
