From orig post on 12/25/04: "My daughter's home, recently purchased, has a Jason brand whirlpool tub equipped with (unknown brand) two valve water inlet assembly mounted on one of the side lips of the extra-deep tub. One of the two valves, of course, leaks like a sieve...and, has for some time, since, we discovered attempts to overpaint the rust colored stains on the ceiling below this 2nd story bath. It's time for a permanent (or, more permanent. . .) fix.

When the valve handle is removed, I find that the valve stem sits inside a black plastic collar. My valve stem deep socket wrench will not fit inside that collar - there's simply not enough clearance. The valve stem appears to be about 1-1/32", but, in any case, the 31/32" socket is too small to fit the packing nut.

The alternative to repairng this unit 'the easy way' (thru the top), is to tear out the ceramic tiled surround. Obviously, that's not the first choice for this do-it-yourselfer.

Does anybody have any experience with these Jason tubs - or similar designs? I've tried prying that black plastic collar up and out of the tub lip thinking it might just pop out and be a 'surround.' Nada. It seems to be attached, at some point. to the valve assembly.

I'm stuck (and, at this point, so is the leaking valve!). "


New: The cup/sleeve does not (or, will not) turn. I have scans of fotos of the valve and cup/sleeve that I could post, if I had some way to add file attachments to my posts (which authority, this board tells me, I do not possess). So, I'm still stuck . . . Thoughts, anyone?

Go to www.photobucket.com and provide a link of your pictures back to this site so that we can better help you.


I would contact the manufacture of the tub, ask what brand name the faucet itself is so that you can google the company and get a parts explosion diagram to better help you.


If none is available, I would take the hit and open the ceramic tile, put an access panel in and put in a brand name faucet that you can maintain over a period of years without running into this same similar situation.

I could swear that the stems in that look like a Delta brand model.




The manufacture probably has a wrench that they sell along with their rebuild kits for the faucet.



You sure there is no way to get to the underside of this? :confused:

Thanks for the suggestion. In the interim, I've done a good bit of Internet searching - thanks to Google - and, I believe, while you may be right about Delta's products being similar in appearance, that this is a Jacuzzi Rainbow Waterfall setup. And, in that regard, I found a .PDF installation manual. And, in that installation manual, there is a big caution about not losing the wrench that 'is provided with the valve assembly.' To quote them, it's 'special.' Yep, I'd say it is. At any rate, that, I believe is my solution - special wrench provided by mfr. One Internet plumbing vendor has 'em listed for $3.32. The original owners of the house, being long gone from this area, likely have that 'special' wrench with 'em - or, they pitched it during the move.

There is no way, short of ripping out the ceramic tile surround, to get to the bottom of the valves. Even if I could, the black plastic cup that encircles the valve, has the supply and discharge lines from the valve assy passing thru it. It can't be removed from the bottom, only from the top, apparently.

So, I'll be off to the hardware or plumbing and supply store next week to see what I can match up. Bet I kick this sucker's butt before I quit!
