Walls and Ceilings - 1/2" or 5/8" sheetrock on ceiling and walls???

We just removed the paneling and tile ceiling that were installed in two of the sleeping rooms of our house. I am going to replace with sheetrock - what is the opinion of which thickness is better - 1/2" or 5/8" for this application?

Use 5/8" on ceiling and 1/2" on wall. They have "no sag" 1/2" out that can be used on ceilings, but it's spendy and since your not blending into anything since you already tore the old out, stick with 5/8" ceiling.

I would used 1/2
5/8 is mostly used in commercial work.
If you have a second story and this celling is just below it you would need 5/8
since 5/8 is knowned as firecode drywall.

If you folow manufacturere's specs and the ceiling joists are 16" o/c or less, you can get away with 1/2" on the ceilings. I believe that most pros would recommend as I do that you always use 5/8" on lids and like the previous poster said in two story homes it's required by fire code in many locations.

These rooms are on the second floor of the house. Thanks - I think I will do 5/8" for the ceilings and 1/2" for the walls.
