I need to know about wiring my new ceiling light.when i took down the old light i niticed i have a black, white and a red wire.i know that if i hook the black house wire to the black fixture wire and the white to white,my light works but the wall switch wont shut off the lights.where do i hook the red wire to on the fixture?i looked at the wiring on the wall switch and noticed that the red and black wires are attached to the switch and the white wires are simply connected to each other and not to the switch.any ideas?

Hi stevenss5482,
- It sounds like you have either a 3 way switch setup or your one switch operates two items. What were the three wires connected to on the old fixture you removed. Was one of them marretted? Check for another switch somewhere, and check voltage on these two (red and black ) with your known switch on/off.
Post back with info.

If there is just one wire of each color, then most likely you are looking at something prewired for a ceiling fan with a light kit. If you're not currently installing a ceiling fan, then cap off the black wire from the ceiling and connect your fixture black wire to the red wire from the ceiling.
