Is there a way to store contact cement after opening
and using from the Tin?
My problem happens to be that whenever I open a tin of
contact cement and storing same..upon return weeks later
it always thickens and jells.
Thanks for any response.

Usually, the manufacturer makes a solvent or thinner for contact cement. You could add some of it to the jelled product to thin it for repeat use.
Contact cement does not keep well after having been opened for a while. A can with a lot of air in it will allow the solvent to evaporate and the contents to jell, as you have seen.
I try to plan usage versus purchase and try to have none left over after a job, for the very reason you cite: thickening and jelling.
If you use it a lot for small projects, the squeeze tube may be better than a can. Otherwise, keep the lid off as briefly as possible.
This is the same as super glue: once opened, the contents seem never to be usable again.
