I'm remodeling my 60's house and bringing various aspects of it up to code as I go. I have a (new) hot water radiant floor heating system powered by a gas boiler, and one requirement is that the boiler should be placed in a "one hour fire resistant enclosure". But I haven't been able to find a clear description of what wall and ceiling materials achieve this goal. Is 5/8" sheetrock all over sufficient?
Can anyone out there explain to me clearly what I have to do? Thanks!

Hello Sy,
All you need for a one-hour fire rating is a single layer of Type X 5/8" firerock. Not sure if this is available thru home centers, I order it from a drywall supply company. This will meet ASTM standards and be in compliance with your local codes. The walls just need to be taped & mudded with one coat to meet code.
