Hi All.
I'm thinking abouting puting in a 12'x12' paver or flagstone patio as a DIY project.
I would like to hear the pros and cons before making a final decision.

Cost, easy to install, maintenance, etc?

I appreciate your input.

I've done both. Flagstone, particularly if you use large pieces is a lot of work. Generally, leveling it and getting all of the voids out from under each piece is difficult. You will also need to cut it in place to minimize the joints. Pavers are easier because they are smaller and more uniform in thickness.

Do you plan on using a concrete base and mortar or just a sand base and sand or dirt or plant material for the joints. These are variables that make the project more or less difficult.

Joe,
I was thinking of using a sand base and joints. Thanks for the advice. I will probably go with the pavers.
