I would like to paint a bed and nightstand. These two items are not currently painted they have been stained, I guess. What steps do I need to take to prepare the surface for paint? Can I just paint over the stain or do I need to strip, prime then paint? Any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks

Lightly sand the bed to remove any glossy areas, clean up the dust. Apply a good alkyd based primer such as Ben. Moore Fresh Start. Apply two finish coats following the manufacturers instructions. Don't cut corners on primer and paint - you get what you pay for. I am partial to Ben. Moore but other paint mfgs. have excellent products also. I prefer alkyd based paints on wood and furniture but latex will work.
