I bought StainMaster Malibu Point cut and loop style carpet. I ordered the odor control(blue layer of material on top of the foam) 8# padding. This is the thickest padding Lowes sells. Should I go with the 8# or go with the 7# padding with a cut and loop design. Also, should the padding for the steps be of a lower weight due to the heavy traffic? Thanks for the help!

Cut & loop needs an 8 pound cushion. I would not go over 3/8 since it has a loop involved. With 7/16 the wear factor is lowered.
